Professionalism

Rationale: Professionalism is very important for educators. Professionalism is all about self-reflection and improving yourself. Professionalism is also needed to collaborate effectively with peers. I will use professionalism in my classroom when engaging with students, faculty, parents, and other administration. I hope that you can see my professionalism in my products below!

Active in Education

In my Introduction to Elementary Education class, I created a graphic organizer that talks about the immigration policies and how they effect schools. Immigrant students spend so much instructional time worried about separation, exclusion, and sometimes the language barrier. It is important to create a safe and inclusive classroom environment.

Book Club

In my Introduction to Elementary Education class, we participated in a book club. Our book was We Want to Do More Than Survive, by Bettina L. Love. This book impacted my teaching philosophy by stressing the importance of teaching of the whole child. This means looking at social and emotional development, rather than only focusing on academic success.

Service Learning Reflection

For one of my classes, I had the opportunity to complete my service learning at a Boys and Girls Club in Opelika. After I completed the 25 hours, I wrote a reflection on my time there. I learned so much from those kids and the facility as a whole.
